Sign Petition to Stop Water Board Proposed Rate Increases
Sign the petition below to let the Water Board know an increase in water rates is not what New Yorkers want. Fill out the form below and click the "Sign the Petition!' button to e-sign this form. Questions? Call Us. Contact information for Council Member Weprin's Office is to the left.

"The New York City Water Board announced on April 3, 2009 that it would be seeking to increase water rates by another 14%. If enacted, this would be the third consecutive year of double digit rate increases. We’re already paying 25% more for a shower than we did in 2006.

"Forcing the Board’s current fiscal challenges on already burdened taxpayers is just not acceptable. Any rate increase would place an additional hardship on us the homeowners, seniors living on fixed incomes, cooperatives and small businesses.

"It is expected that this year alone $124 million in Rental Payments will be made to the City General Fund. These payments and the rate increase that are associated with the payments are nothing more than a backdoor property tax.

"Councilman David I. Weprin and the undersigned residents of the City of New York protest any rate increase and call for an end to the rental payments to the City and to use the estimated $124 million rental payment to mitigate any rate increase."
