“We have received good news today that the MTA has decided to postpone a fare hike that would have disproportionately impacted communities of color and low-income transit riders that rely on our city’s trains and buses. Public transportation is a necessity for many New Yorkers, and a fare hike during an economic recession would severely hurt those that rely on it the most. Thank you to the advocates that pushed back against this fare increase and stood up for our essential workers.

Washington must now take immediate action by providing additional aid to New York so we can adequately invest in our city’s transit system.

There is more work ahead, but I am grateful for today`s decision by the MTA.”
