Standing alongside a small group of friends and family members, Tiffany Cab\u00e1n was officially sworn in as Council Member for the 22nd Council District, becoming the first woman, first Latina, and first Queer person to represent the district. The office was vacated when former Council Member Costa Constantinides resigned in April of 2021.<\/p>\n
Immediately after being sworn in, Cab\u00e1n signed on to co-sponsor 20 pieces of legislation to improve the lives of New Yorkers across the five boroughs. The bills include Intro. 1867-2020<\/a> which would establish municipal non-citizen voting rights, Intro. 2173-2020<\/a> which would ban solitary confinement in city jails, Intro. 1926-2020<\/a> which would extend paid sick leave to misclassified gig workers, Intro. 2197-2021 <\/a>which would prevent city-owned land from being sold to for-profit developers, Intro. 2317-2020 <\/a>which would ban natural gas in new buildings and gut renovations, and Intro. 2374-2020<\/a> which would mandate smaller class sizes in New York City schools.
