NYC must permanently fund community composting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Read the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/amsterdamnews.com\/news\/2024\/09\/19\/nyc-must-permanently-fund-community-composting\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>By Gabriel-Jos\u00e9 Maldonado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Due to effective citywide campaigning and Councilmember Shaun Abreu\u2019s advocacy, the New York City Council reinstated the Community Composting for the<a href=\"https:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/shaun-abreu\/2024\/07\/01\/wastedive-new-york-city-community-compost-program-funds-restored-in-fy25-budget\/\">\u00a0FY2025 budget<\/a>, restoring $6.245 million to programs. While impressive, that is still very much a temporary solution. Community Composting should be a fixed program that is funded by the city for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Curbside composting needs to be a mainstay in our city budget. Today, 55 years after the Young Lords Party protest, Northern Manhattan is in need of permanent solutions if it is to remain clean.
