{"id":149,"date":"2023-07-06T11:35:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T11:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/shaun-abreu\/?p=149"},"modified":"2024-06-10T16:06:20","modified_gmt":"2024-06-10T16:06:20","slug":"patch-uws-budget-wins-part-i-nycha-housing-schools-morningside-heights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/shaun-abreu\/2023\/07\/06\/patch-uws-budget-wins-part-i-nycha-housing-schools-morningside-heights\/","title":{"rendered":"Patch: UWS Budget Wins Part I: NYCHA Housing, Schools, Morningside Heights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/upper-west-side-nyc\/uws-budget-wins-part-i-nycha-housing-schools-morningside-heights\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By G<strong>us Saltonstall<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UPPER WEST SIDE, NY \u2014 The record-high&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/new-york-city\/107b-nyc-2024-budget-deal-reached-right-deadline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$107 billion budget passed<\/a>&nbsp;by the City Council on the last day of June includes millions of dollars coming to the Upper West Side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The local funding includes improvements to schools, housing, and parks in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While District 6 Council Member Gale Brewer represents the majority of the Upper West Side, District 7 Council Member Shaun Abreu represents a significant part of the neighborhood above 97th Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patch will publish an additional article next week breaking down the funding secured by Brewer for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abreu&#8217;s office shared with Patch the Upper West Side budget wins he helped secure in the 2024 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Upper West Side + Morningside Heights Budget Wins<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Frederick Douglass NYCHA Complex: 3 million<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Funding gained through Speaker Adrienne Adams to help with housing within the Frederick Douglass NYCHA Complex from West 100th to 102nd streets between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Capital Investments Funding<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Frederick Douglass NYCHA Complex basketball courts: $550K<\/li>\n<li>Morningside Park ADA Renovations: $500K<\/li>\n<li>The West 108th Street Phase II Affordable Housing Project: $500K<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Sizable investment&#8221; to the chorus room for the Booker T.
