Cawley<br \/>Chief Executive Officer<\/p>\n<p>Dear Mr. Cawley,<br \/>I am writing regarding the power outage that began on January 31, which caused widespread<br \/>disruption across Park Slope, Gowanus, and Boerum Hill.<br \/>Residents and small businesses endured prolonged loss of heat, hot water, refrigeration, and<br \/>access to medical equipment during freezing temperatures. Families discarded spoiled food and<br \/>medications, missed work, incurred unexpected expenses, and faced unsafe living conditions.<br \/>Small businesses suffered closures and lost income. These impacts are serious and<br \/>unacceptable.<br \/>This outage comes amid significant and widely reported increases in utility bills. Constituents<br \/>are being asked to pay more while experiencing extended service failures\u2014an untenable<br \/>situation that demands immediate corrective action.<br \/>While I recognize the efforts of crews working under difficult conditions, the scale and duration<br \/>of this outage require swift, meaningful relief for customers.<br \/>Accordingly, I urge Con Edison to:<br \/>\u25cf Suspend billing and issue automatic bill credits for all impacted customers for the full<br \/>duration of the outage, without requiring burdensome individual applications;<br \/>\u25cf Ensure credits fully reflect the scope of harm, including multi-day service interruptions<br \/>and the loss of heat and hot water;<br \/>\u25cf Clearly and proactively communicate the credit process and timelines to customers in<br \/>plain, accessible language.<\/p>\n<p>Residents should not bear the financial burden of this failure.
