(Queens, NY<\/strong>) This week, the Queens Borough Board, comprised of the borough\u2019s City Council delegation, the Queens borough president, and its community board chairs, all voted to approve the land sale for an industrially zoned parcel of land which will create one creation of the largest public electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in New York City\u2014in the Springfield Gardens section of the 31st councilmanic district. The project, championed by Council Majority Whip Selvena N. Brooks-Powers, will bring a critical clean transportation facility to Southeast Queens, advancing equity, sustainability, and economic opportunity in a historically underserved community while building on New York City\u2019s Green Economy Action Plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n The development will be led by Wildflower JFK North, LLC, a New York City-based developer that creates urban infrastructure for sustainability will purchase the site from the City in response to a Request for Proposals (RFP) the New York City Economic Development Corporation issued in the Fall of 2022.Located along the southwest side of Rockaway Boulevard near 145th Avenue, the 2.5-acre site will feature a minimum of 65 EV charging stations, including 12 fast chargers, accessible to the public 24\/7. The site will serve all types of vehicles, including electric trucks, and has the potential to expand to over 200 EV-ready stalls.<\/p>\n Importantly, the project includes a 25% Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) participation goal\u2014reinforcing Council Member Brooks-Powers’ longstanding commitment to ensuring that major infrastructure investments benefit local workers and MWBE firms.<\/p>\n “This is a win for climate justice, economic equity, and transportation access,” said New York City Council Majority Whip Selvena N.
