The 109<sup>th<\/sup> Precinct received 12 new police officers at the end of 2022, and an additional 15 officers in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile there has been an uptick in crime across the city, the surge in the 109<sup>th<\/sup> Precinct was particularly troubling given our large immigrant population and the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes,\u201d said Councilmember Sandra Ung. \u201cThese new officers will be a major component in our efforts to reduce crime and make Flushing and the rest of the 109<sup>th<\/sup> Precinct safer. I remain committed to working with the NYPD and City Hall to fight for resources for our community.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In December, Councilmember Ung and her colleagues in government sent a letter to Mayor Eric Adams calling on his administration to direct the New York Police Department to assign more police officers to the 109<sup>th<\/sup> Precinct to address the alarming uptick in crime over the past year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur community is still reeling from the surge in Anti-Asian hate crimes,\u201d the letter read. \u201cThroughout the pandemic, friends and neighbors were afraid to let their parents walk outside. Now they open the papers on a daily basis to see a surge in violent crimes concentrated in Flushing.
