Councilmember Ung also recently released an op-ed where she noted that a lack of multilingual and culturally competent services is the equivalent to not providing a service at all. Together with Speaker Adams and her colleagues, the Council prioritized ensuring that NYC is a city that embraces its heritage as a city of immigrants by making a historic $8.6 million investment in expanding language access. <\/p>\n Councilmember Ung highlighted other major wins for the Flushing community, including a $100,000 allocation to support community safety and victim services for District 20 through a brand new \u201cCommunity Safety and Victim Services Initiative.\u201d The City Council also fought for a restoration of cuts to the Sanitation Department and secured $22 million to expand litter basket service to six days a week, twice a day across NYC. <\/p>\n Councilmember Ung further noted that throughout her time in the Council, affordable housing has been a priority issue that has been repeatedly raised by constituents and community groups. To support tenants and small landlords struggling to make ends meet and stay housed, the City Council is fully funding rental assistance programs and a CityFHEPS Voucher Rate increase, which will help both renters stay in their homes and landlords have a reliable source of rent. Vitally for homeowners here in Flushing and across NYC, the Council will be providing a $150 property tax rebate to homeowners with incomes below $250k, which will be in addition to the state\u2019s $290-plus rebate.
