NYC Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. (D-36), Chair of the Council’s Committee on Housing and Buildings, released the following statement in response to news of a fatal fire at the Frederick E. Samuel Houses in Harlem this morning.

BROOKLYN, NY – NYC Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. (D-36) released the following statement today in response to the federal government’s lack of action in addressing heat and hot water outages at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn:

“While the Metropolitan Detention Center is under the sole jurisdiction of the federal government, it is no less concerning to me as a local Brooklyn elected official to see human beings suffer with a lack of heat and hot water during the coldest days of winter.

BROOKLYN, NY – NYC Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. (D-36) released the following statement in response to news of a five-alarm fire at 376 Vernon Avenue in Brooklyn this morning:

“Early this morning, just before 4 a.m., the FDNY responded to a five-alarm fire at a commercial building on Vernon Avenue in my district. Thankfully, as of 11 a.m., the fire was under control and no injuries or fatalities had been reported.

On September 26th, Council Member Robert E. Cornegy Jr., Speaker Corey Johnson, Council Member Daneek Miller, Council Member Adrienne Adams, and members of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus (BLAC) honored 1968 Olympic champion Robert “Bob” Beamon with a proclamation celebrating the 50th anniversary of his world-record breaking long jump.

Bob Beamon was born in South Jamaica Queens, New York in 1946 and grew up in NYCHA’s Jamaica Houses.

Trump Administration Blocks Measure to Support Breastfeeding Across the World

NEW YORK, NY — Today, Rep. Carolyn B.
