The Early Morning Shooting Killed 4 and Injured 3

BROOKLYN, NY– NYC Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. (D-36) released the following statement in response to news of a fatal early morning shooting on Utica Avenue in the Weeksville section of Brooklyn:

“This is a serious crime that requires a serious response. Thank you to the 77th Precinct and NYPD, FDNY, and all other first responders who secured the scene and saved lives. I would also like to commend the work of advocate groups like S.O.S. Crown Heights that are working to eliminate gun violence in our community,” said Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. (D-36 Brooklyn). “Governor Cuomo and New York State have done a lot to prevent and end gun violence, but it is clear there is more work to do at the community level and beyond.”

“This is especially frustrating and disturbing because I just joined the community in co-naming this street corner after Reverend Timothy Wright, just steps from Grace Tabernacle Christian Center,” he continued. “This is a historic community, and we must have more respect for one another and ourselves.”
