BROOKLYN, NYNYC Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. (D-36) released the following statement today on the NYPD’s decision to pursue disciplinary charges against Officers Daniel Pantaleo and Kizzy Adonis:

“After four years of inaction, the NYPD today announced it would pursue disciplinary proceedings against the officers involved in the death of Eric Garner four long years ago. While it is appalling that the Garner family have had to wait four years for the NYPD to be called to account for the murder of their beloved Eric, I am hopeful that a full investigation of the department’s dubious handling of this case – which included false statements and misrepresentation of witnesses – finally brings about a just resolution to this tragic incident and that the officers involved in Eric Garner’s murder are held responsible for their actions.”
