As longtime supporter of PB, Speaker Adams has funded upgrades and renovations at local schools, libraries, and parks in District 28<\/em><\/p>\n

Queens, NY \u2013<\/strong> Through the New York City Council\u2019s Participatory Budgeting (PB) process, Speaker Adrienne Adams has allocated nearly $6.5 million and funded over 30 capital projects to improve local schools, libraries, parks, and other public spaces in Council District 28. Since 2018, Speaker Adams\u2019 district has participated in the PB process every year, except for when PB was paused during the pandemic. Through PB, she has empowered local residents of all ages to help shape and vote on funding proposals. In the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Participatory Budgeting cycle, more than 93,000 New Yorkers across 24 Council Districts<\/a> voted to allocate $30 million in capital funding for neighborhood projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a longtime supporter of Participatory Budgeting, I\u2019m proud to have allocated nearly $6.5 million to fund dozens of projects in Council District 28, while also encouraging more residents to be civically engaged and involved in their community,\u201d said Speaker Adrienne Adams<\/strong>. \u201cParticipatory Budgeting fosters greater civic engagement, empowering New Yorkers of all ages to be involved in the long-term success of their neighborhoods. Through our collective work, we have successfully secured improvements to local institutions that support our scholars, families, and everyone who calls District 28 home. I\u2019m grateful to my constituents who have volunteered to be budget delegates and voted on PB projects throughout my tenure in the City Council!\u201d<\/p>\n

Participatory Budgeting proposals are created by New Yorkers who attended neighborhood assemblies and budget delegate meetings. All proposals are for capital budget projects, which are significant neighborhood infrastructure investments. They are crafted and refined in partnership with relevant city agencies and facilitated by participating Council Members\u2019 offices. Voting in Participatory Budgeting is open to all residents of participating districts who are 11 years of age and older.<\/p>\n
