We have seen too many cases where justice was not delivered. And while I am relieved,\u00a0I&#8217;d be remiss not to acknowledge the immense trauma George Floyd&#8217;s loved ones\u00a0and the witnesses to his death endured throughout this trial.\u202fNothing\u00a0will ever alleviate their pain and suffering. My\u00a0heart is with\u00a0the\u00a0Floyd family, his\u00a0friends, his entire community, and all those who took the witness stand to deliver justice.\u00a0\u00a0Although this verdict\u00a0is an important step in the right direction, we know that\u00a0much work remains.\u00a0The generations of trauma policing has done and continues to do to communities of color is nothing short of an epidemic and\u00a0cannot continue.\u00a0This Council has\u00a0been committed\u00a0to redefining\u00a0public safety and policing and will continue to do the hard but necessary work\u00a0that\u00a0our communities\u00a0need going forward.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">###<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New York, NY<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 \u201cToday\u2019s verdict is a relief.
