To ban this community from using the restroom and wardrobe that corresponds to their gender identity is not only immoral and inhumane\u2014it\u2019s dangerous. This deplorable act of cowardice\u2014 which merely mirrors President Trump\u2019s hateful and divisive rhetoric\u2014 falls in line with the Governor\u2019s recent attempts to roll back the rights of Puerto Rico\u2019s LGBTQ community. Rivera Schatz should be ashamed of himself: instead of taking the time to dis-empower the most vulnerable Puerto Ricans, he should be focused on strengthening them and moving the island forward. We should all be honoring the Puerto Rican Senate\u2019s transgender employees for their public service, not denigrating them. I stand with Puerto Rico\u2019s LGBTQ community and will continue to do everything in my power to ensure the New York City Council advances civil and human rights for all.\u201d<\/p>\n
