Quinn Re: Verizon Union Layoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cTwo years ago, the City Council voted overwhelmingly to authorize negotiations with Verizon; allowing them to enter the cable television market in New York and offer FIOS service to all New Yorkers. Verizon made a commitment at that time to keep, maintain and expand thousands of good-paying, union jobs in New York City. FIOS is now offered in many parts of the City and Verizon has benefitted financially. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow Verizon must keep its promise and assure New Yorkers that they are a good corporate citizen. These good-paying, union jobs are a central part of what makes New York City a vibrant, thriving, and attractive place where people want to make their homes and raise their families. Verizon\u2019s customers need reassurance that that their payments will not result in jobs being outsourced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn today\u2019s difficult economic times these jobs should stay in New York.
