Re: New York Blood Center Rezoning

New York, NY – “After years of discussion and weeks of challenging negotiations, we now have a project that we’re enthusiastically supporting and which will build a new world class research space for the New York Blood Center, helping to cement New York City as a hub of biomedical research.  The project that the Council’s Zoning subcommittee and the Land Use committee will vote on this afternoon has been reduced in height by over 100 feet, will include additional funding for St. Catherine’s Park and the Julia Richman Educational Complex, and measures to ensure that the only building of this size that can be built here will be for life sciences research.  We all want to sincerely thank the Blood Center, the de Blasio administration and the many members of the community that we have heard from in this process.  Finally we would like to thank and acknowledge our colleagues – Council Member Ben Kallos, State Senator Liz Krueger, Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright and Congress Member Carolyn Maloney – for their tireless advocacy on behalf of this community.”
