New York— “I am delighted to learn about the accord struck today between the Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency that will allow the completion of the viability study on the dredging of the Caño Martín Peña. I want to congratulate Proyecto ENLACE, community leaders and the local, municipal, state and federal agencies that have worked tirelessly to achieve this goal. I also would like to thank Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for her unwavering support that led to an unprecedented congressional visit to El Caño in January at the invitation from my office. There is still much more to do until the dredging is completed and the quality of life of the eight communities that surround el Caño Martín Peña is up to the standard they deserve. I’ll keep supporting these efforts and assist in any way possible to better the lives of the thousands of families living near the Caño Martín Peña.”
