City Hall – On Thursday, June 18th, Speaker Christine C. Quinn will honor the Oscar Nominated Executive Producer of the acclaimed movie Milk during the City Council’s annual Pride ceremony at City Hall. Already earning an Academy Award for his work as a Producer on the movie American Beauty, Executive Producer Bruce Cohen will be honored for his work on the movie depicting the life of California’s first openly gay politician elected to office, Harvey Milk.

“I felt it was essential that Bruce Cohen be honored at our ceremonies this June,” Speaker Quinn said. “He has been an exemplary leader in the film industry and continues to make a positive impact in the LGBT community. His work is laudable and he most definitely deserves a second Oscar win this Sunday night.”

Bruce Cohen sent his thanks saying, “I am so honored to be invited and recognized at the 2009 Pride Event organized by New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. If Harvey Milk is looking down from Heaven, I feel he would be overjoyed by how far we have come, but also fully aware of how far we have to go in the fight for full equality. I hope the work of our film will honor his memory.”

Speaker Quinn’s annual Pride event in the Council Chambers honors those in the LGBT community in New York City and across the country. New York City’s LGBT Pride week kicks off the following Saturday, June 20th.
