New York, NY – The City Council, along with the New York Blood Center, today hosted a blood drive to help increase supplies during the summer months which typically see fewer donations. Council Speaker Christine Quinn along with Council Members and staffers were on hand to help in the effort.

Although blood is essential every day, donations tend to decline during the summer vacation months as people travel more. Also, donations from high schools and colleges, which account for 25% of regional blood collection, drop when schools close for the summer.

If you cannot donate but still wish to participate in bringing blood products to patients in need, please ask someone to donate for you or consider volunteering at a local blood drive.
