CITY COUNCIL PASSES KOO BILL TO CRACK DOWN ON IMMIGRANT TENANT HARASSMENT

Flushing, NY – Immigrant tenants will have additional protections under the law thanks to legislation passed in the New York City Council today that will amend the definition of harassment to include discriminatory threats and requests for proof of citizenship.

Flushing, NY – Council Member Peter Koo today reached an agreement with the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs to extend the grace period for laundromats throughout the city who have struggled to reach compliance with the city’s new Local Law 87 requirements. The 6-month grace period came after CM Koo spoke to DCA Commissioner Lorelei Salas this morning prior to a city resource fair in Flushing where dozens of laundry owners attended to speak with DCA and DOB representatives. Council Member Peter Koo stated the following regarding an anonymous political mailer circulating in Edison, New Jersey that calls for the deportation of Asian candidates.

“This is true cowardice. Sadly, the bigoted toxicity of anonymous internet message boards has made its way to these political mailers in Edison, New Jersey. I strongly encourage the voters of Edison turn out in force on November 7th to beat back this intolerance by exercising their rights to vote.”

Flushing, NY – Council Member Peter Koo and State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic today announced the upcoming installation of a long-awaited traffic signal at the intersection of Parsons Boulevard and Rose Avenue in Kissena Park, Flushing.

Koo, Rozic and other elected officials and residents have been pushing for a traffic signal at the intersection since 2015 when Min-Tsu Lin was struck by a hit and run driver. READ MORE

Flushing, NY – Council Member Peter Koo and the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce today joined the NYC Department of Sanitation and the Flushing Library to announce an upcoming sanitation forum to educate business owners about the new recycling rules and regulations that went into effect this year. AFTER REPORTS OF CRIME, CM KOO ANNOUNCES 3 FULL-TIME SECURITY GUARDS FOR FLUSHING PARKS

Flushing – CM Peter Koo today joined with the Parks Department and local civic leaders to announce three new full-time security guards who will begin patrolling Kissena Corridor Park and Kissena Park in Flushing. CM Koo funded the security guards following a series of criminal activity that occurred in the parks last month. In July, police arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting two women in Kissena Corridor Park in Flushing. READ MORE
