Fresh Meadows, NY – Council Member Peter Koo today joined students and faculty from PS 177Q (The Robin Sue Ward School For Exceptional Children) at a dedication ceremony for the school’s newly renovated auditorium. Over the past four years, CM Koo has secured for the school nearly $1 million in capital funding, tech upgrades and after-school programming. At the ceremony, students gave speeches and performed musical pieces before cutting a ribbon naming the auditorium the “Koo Auditorium.”

CM Koo stated, “As an elected official, my first priority is to make sure our schools have the funding they need put our children on the path to success. For 35 years, PS 177 has served special needs students in our community by coaching them to achieve independence. I am excited to see this equipment open new doors to learning by giving students access to music and performance art. I’m happy to support them in any way possible.”

PS 177 Principal Kathleen Posa stated, “Through the ongoing efforts and generosity of Councilman Peter Koo, P177 has been able to purchase much needed equipment both in technology as well as providing a much needed remodeling of our school’s auditorium.  Every student has benefitted from his efforts and it is a privilege for us to honor him by dedicating our auditorium to Councilman Koo.  We would never be able to accomplish these purchases, if it were not for him.  P177 Queens is a self-contained special education school that educates students with developmental disabilities, and the technology purchases along with the new sound and staging equipment have certainly had a positive impact on all of our students.”
