Council Member Chin Responds to Brooklyn DA Office’s Decision to Charge Murders at Seaport Buffet as a Hate Crime

I want to thank Brooklyn District Attorney, Eric Gonzalez for his decision to prosecute the cowardly murders of Fufai Pun, Tsz Mat Pun and Kheong Ng-Thang as a hate crime. I also want to thank the NYPD Hate Crimes Unit for its help on this case. The alleged perpetrator entered the Seaport Buffet motivated by a harmful racial stereotype of gender relations in my community, with a goal to massacre Asians. As a result of his actions, three innocent New Yorkers died for no other reason than they were Asian. Thanks to the efforts of District Attorney Gonzalez and the NYPD Hate Crimes Unit a clear message is being sent, that hate has no home in New York City.
