P.S. 150 Will Renew Its Lease – Avoid Move To Peck Slip

NEW YORK –After months of advocacy by parents, students, teachers, and Council Member Margaret S. Chin, P.S. 150, an award-winning school, will be allowed to renew its lease. The award-winning school is considered a jewel in the Tribeca neighborhood which is experiencing a huge demand for additional school seats. It was only a few months ago that the P.S. 150 parents, students, and teachers were informed that the building’s property owners, Vornado and Stellar Management, would evict the school at the end of the current academic year.

“Ourcommunity spoke with one voice and we were heard,” said Council Member Chin. “The parents, students, and teachers of P.S. 150 will be able to renew their lease and avoid a completely unnecessary move to Peck Slip. The extra time will allow the school to prepare for its long-planned move to 42 Trinity Place in the Financial District. Today, the City made it clear that the need for quality schools will take precedence over the desires of real estate companies.”

Lastmonth, parents, teachers, students, Council Member Chin, and other elected officials rallied to save P.S. 150 from conversion into a luxury gym by its landlords.
