NEW YORK – Today, Council Member Margaret S. Chin marched up Fifth Avenue to join thousands of New Yorkers to participate in the country’s largest celebration of Italian American culture and heritage, the Columbus Day Parade.

“Today, I join my fellow New Yorkers in commemorating the enormous contributions that the Italian American community has made, and continues to make to our City,” said Council Member Chin. “As Council Member representing Lower Manhattan, I have the special privilege of representing the historic center of Italian American culture and history in our City, the iconic Little Italy neighborhood. The Italian immigrant experience is emblematic of the struggles, values and relentless pursuit of the American Dream that are shared by so many of our City’s immigrant communities, and I will continue to uphold my commitment to preserving this community’s rich history, unique stories and diverse contributions to the cultural fabric of our City.”

Known as the “Italian American capital,” New York City is home to hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers of Italian heritage.
