Vivian Cheng, 46, a travel agent, is charged with stealing tens of thousands of dollars from victims and stranding passengers with fraudulent airline tickets

New York, NY – Council Member Margaret Chin released the following statement after the arrest and arraignment today of Vivian Cheng, 46, a travel agent, on felony larceny and fraud charges related to a scam targeting the Chinese-American community:

“I applaud District Attorney Vance and his hardworking team of prosecutors for bringing charges in connection with this terrible scam that stranded travelers and cost victims tens of thousands of dollars in fraudulent airline tickets. My office will continue to assist authorities in their efforts to hold this travel agent accountable for her crimes and hopefully to get money back for victims. I urge all travelers to remain vigilant against scammers by requesting etickets and by demanding documentation for payments and other financial transactions.”
