We set out to make the budget a little clearer with a new <a href=\"http:\/\/budget.council.nyc\/\"><strong>Budget Explorer<\/strong><\/a> for the NYC Expense Budget. <\/p>\n<p>New York City&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/budget.council.nyc\/\">Expense Budget<\/a> determines recurring expenses and contracts, such as teachers in our schools, the electricity at local senior centers, and maintenance of city parks.<\/p>\n<p>Using <a href=\"https:\/\/data.cityofnewyork.us\/City-Government\/Expense-Budget\/mwzb-yiwb\">open data<\/a>, we developed a tool to understand what the City spends money on.
