“In light of recent news, several consumers are cancelling their gym memberships. Those individuals are running into a common obstacle: most gyms and fitness studios have outdated rules for cancellations.
We need to make it easier for consumers to unsubscribe from a brand’s service. That is why I am drafting legislation to require companies providing auto-renewal subscriptions and memberships to allow for online cancellations.
This is an ongoing issue of consumer rights. It is not fair to consumers to be hamstrung in agreements and tied up financially by companies that could easily allow for an online cancellation. I look forward to seeing change for consumers soon.”
