“I’d like to offer prayers of peace and comfort to the family of Hermanda Booker, who lost her life tragically this morning while commuting to work. The loss of a loved one is never easy, especially when a life is taken so suddenly and so young. Hermanda was in the prime of her life and it saddens me to see the community lose someone who by all accounts was passionate about their work and improving children’s lives.”

STATEMENT FROM COUNCIL MEMBER WILLIAMS

” For many areas in the City, including parts of my district, rain has caused much more damage than it should because of clogged catch basins, among several other causes. When I introduced this bill, my goal was to provide relief to residents and drivers, who would have to deal with flooded streets on a regular basis.

I along with many are very concerned about the wave of antisemitic threats in recent weeks, including today, at the JCC of Staten Island.  The threats against the Jewish community, irrespective of real or hoax status, is troubling to a community understandably already concerned.

“Trump’s continued assault on immigrants is deeply troubling and continues to further divide this country. His new Muslim ban will translate into the unwarranted and unconstitutional profiling of people because of their ethnicity and race. This new xenophobic version of his executive order does nothing to comfort immigrant communities.

“Unfortunately I was unable to attend the budget hearing, due to an extended hospital stay and unexpected second operation following hernia surgery. I’d like to also thank everyone who sent their good wishes during my recovery period and my family, friends, and colleagues for their support during this time; and of course, I thank the Creator for helping guide me through this.
