STATEMENT FROM COUNCIL MEMBER JUMAANE D. WILLIAMS
“Unfortunately I was unable to attend the budget hearing, due to an extended hospital stay and unexpected second operation following hernia surgery. I’d like to also thank everyone who sent their good wishes during my recovery period and my family, friends, and colleagues for their support during this time; and of course, I thank the Creator for helping guide me through this.
“As Chair of the Housing and Buildings Committee, the City’s housing crisis has been at the forefront of my work this legislative session. I am happy to see that affordable housing is also a priority for the Council as evidenced by funding for low-cost housing initiatives such as, Housing New York, which will support HPD’s goal in creating and preserving over 42,000 affordable units citywide. I want to thank Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Chair of the Finance Committee Julissa Ferreras-Copeland and all council members and staff who worked on putting together a budget that ensures New Yorkers have the resources they need for securing a safe and quality place to live. I look forward to working with the Administration on increasing deeper affordable housing projects in the City that offer options for lower-income New Yorkers.”
