STATEN ISLAND N.Y.– Friday morning, New York City Council member Joseph Borelli, Borough President James Oddo, and Borough Parks Commissioner Lynda Ricciardone came together at Lemon Creek Park to announce its upcoming renovation.

Located at the bottom of Seguine Avenue, below Hylan Boulevard, Lemon Creek Park currently has a small jungle gym with a big spacious field behind it.
“This play equipment was under water during Hurricane Sandy, we’re here to replace it, which is long overdue,” said Borough Parks Commissioner Lynda Ricciardone. “Our parks are a sanctuary of sanity for our children and parents and we’re so fortunate to have our elected officials care so much.”

Over the past year, Borelli, Oddo, and the NYC Parks department have gone to multiple parks on Staten Island to work on their renovation and improvement for the communities. Oddo had brought with him a list of parks he’d already worked on with Borelli, including Bloomingdale Park, E.M.T. Christopher J. Prescott Sensory PlaygroundArden Woods, and Fairview Park, giving honorable mention to them.

“This is a real commitment to improving the parks on the south shore. Credit to councilman Borelli and our friends at the parks department,” said Oddo. “We use your tax dollars for projects we really believe in, and I appreciate our partnership over the years.”

Borelli has secured over $1.5 million in funding for the upgrades to Lemon Creek Park.

“This is our crusade against crappy playgrounds,” said Borelli.
