Council Member Joseph Borelli (R-South Shore) is inviting all coastal Princes Bay and Lemon Creek residents to an upcoming public information session focused on coastal flood protection measures being taken along the Princes Bay shoreline at Lemon Creek on the South Shore of Staten Island. The event is being hosted in conjunction with the New York City Office of Emergency Management and the Mayor’s Office of Recovery & Resiliency.

It will take place at the Community Board 3 Office (1243 Woodrow Road, 2nd Floor – Suite 8) on Tuesday, July 11, at 7:00 pm.

The purpose of this public information session is to inform residents about upcoming coastal flood protection measures that are being taken along the Princes Bay shoreline at Lemon Creek, including a series of semi-permanent berms on the Lemon Creek waterfront that would be covered with plantings to make them aesthetically pleasing. Those who attend will also learn how exactly the system will protect homes in the event of a storm surge, and representatives from the responsible agencies will answer questions from the public.

The project is expected to have a severely limited impact on the aforementioned neighborhoods, or approximately 60 houses.

“I am thrilled that we are finally moving forward with this plan to strengthen our shoreline communities on the South Shore, and I strongly urge those living in the coastal areas of Princes Bay and Lemon Creek to attend this important information session,” said Borelli.
