Council Member Joseph Borelli (R – South Shore) is pleased to announce that there will be an increase in both litter basket service across hotspots in the 51st District with the allocation of an additional DSNY truck for pickups in heavily-utilized areas, and the placement of new litter baskets in high-traffic locations. The augmented service and additional baskets are made possible through Council Member Borelli’s office and the New York City Council’s Clean Initiative.

The additional litter baskets will cut down on litter in south shore towns and commercial corridors; baskets will be placed in numerous areas including Tottenville town, Great Kills’ commercial corridor on Hylan Blvd, Richmond Avenue, and public transit hubs. These litter baskets are to be utilized by pedestrians and commuters and will be serviced by the New York City Department of Sanitation.

“The increased truck service and litter baskets are a step in the right direction to maintain quality of life on the south shore. It is everyone’s responsibility to keep litter off of our streets, and it is the city’s responsibility to provide adequate waste basket locations and pickup service. Keeping our neighborhoods and town centers clean will always be a priority of mine,” said Council Member Joseph Borelli.

“The Department of Sanitation is pleased to work with Council Member Borelli to provide additional services and eight new high end litter baskets for Council District 51,” said Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia. “The Department has found that partnerships are an essential tool in accomplishing goals. Elected officials, city residents and Sanitation can work together to make our neighborhoods a source of pride to the people who live and work there.”
