Council Member Joseph Borelli (R – South Shore), in partnership with the Department of Finance’s Office of the Taxpayer Advocate, will be hosting a Tax Day presentation event on Thursday, January 25th from 6-8PM in the Lobby at Monsignor Farrell High School (2900 Amboy Road SI, NY 10306).
Have A Tax Problem You Can’t Resolve?
• Issues with NYC Notices of Property Value?
• Issues with NYC Business Tax?
• IRS Tax issues?
• New York State Tax issues?
• EITC day
The event will begin with a 15-minute presentation from a representative from the federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Taxpayer Advocate Service, with topics including IRS tax updates and information on IRS debt collection. Staff from the NYC Department of Finance’s Office of the Taxpayer Advocate (OTA) will also discuss homeowner, commercial and not-for-profit tax benefits, business taxes, and how OTA can advocate on a taxpayer’s behalf in order to resolve a tax issue with the Department of Finance.
Department of Finance staff members will be on hand to discuss and field additional questions regarding the NYC Notice of Property Value, NYC Business Tax, IRS issues and NYS tax issues.
“As many of my constituents know all too well, the NYC property tax system is complex and assessments are sometimes unpredictable,” said Borelli. “It’s a priority of mine to ensure that Staten Islanders have access to these resources so they can get their notice of property value letters explained and, if necessary, dispute them.”
