They work collaboratively to: track and advise Council Members on land use applications, including Uniform Land Use Review Process (ULURP); Staff and facilitate Council hearings and votes for the Land Use Committee, Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises, and the Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Sitings, Resiliency, and Dispositions; design and implement community planning processes; conduct policy analysis &amp; research to support informed decision-making; provide legal guidance and legislative drafting; offer education &amp; ongoing support on planning and land use related topics; and provide technical assistance support to Council Members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SALARY RANGE<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">$65,000 to $75,000<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assisting the Deputy Director, Council Members and other Council staff with the design and implementation of community engagement processes related to planning efforts within Council districts.<\/li>\n<li>Working closely and collaboratively with supported communities, and Council Members and staff to assist in the development of plans and other documents that are responsive to and reflective of the needs and interests of residents, and community members.<\/li>\n<li>Attending, planning, supporting, and organizing community events, such as town halls, community education events, and more.<\/li>\n<li>Identifying and tracking short-term, long-term, and evolving trends relevant to planning efforts and reporting on these trends to the wider team.<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining databases of community contacts and issues and draft communications such as letters, presentations, and promotional materials.<\/li>\n<li>Providing technical assistance to Council Members and their staff on land use applications under Council review.<\/li>\n<li>Performing or assisting in design analyses and site planning studies related to development initiatives, community engagement activities and other related initiatives.<\/li>\n<li>Occasional after-hours availability may be required to address time-sensitive matters.<\/li>\n<li>Performing other duties, as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Master\u2019s degree preferred with a focus on urban planning or public policy.<\/li>\n<li>At least one year of experience in urban planning or urban design.<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign and ArcGIS Online.<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to communicate effectively with people of all ages from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and gender backgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>A passion for community engagement.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to effectively navigate challenging conversations and manage conflict.<\/li>\n<li>Comfort speaking in front of large groups.<\/li>\n<li>Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks at once.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to public service.<\/li>\n<li>Multilingual a plus.<\/li>\n<li>Desire to take self-initiative while also enjoying working within a team.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of planning issues facing New York City.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to center equity as a guiding principle in all work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New York City residency is required within 90 days of appointment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For eligible employees, health, dental and vision insurance coverage are offered upon hire.
