DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The New York City Council’s Administrative Services division is seeking to fill the position of Payroll Generalist in Personnel Services.
The Payroll Generalist performs specialized, extremely confidential administrative work in the timekeeping and/or payroll operations.
- Prepares and processes personnel transactions in PMS and NYCAPS including new appointments, job appointments, salary and hour changes, address changes, name changes, onetime payments, tax withholdings, leave status changes, terminations/resignations, budget code/line changes, work unit and distribution code changes. Reviews payroll reports for data integrity.
- Reviews time records for accuracy of information and for conformity with established policy and procedures. Reviews time and meal allowances for staff.
- Tracks and enters new appointments, terminations, and changes into Timekeeping system. Prepares and enters Employee Time Record (ETR) exceptions into the Payroll Management System.
Post-secondary education or equivalent and progressive work experience in a payroll or timekeeping related field preferred; Working knowledge of MS Office; ability to meet and work with management and staff; ability to function well under stressful conditions; proven track record in developing solid working relationships; detail oriented and creative thinker, with strong communication skills.
New York City Residency required within 90 days of appointment.
