The New York City Council, an equal opportunity employer, is seeking a Legislative Coordinator / Assistant Project Manager to work in its Planning & Land Use Division.
The New York City Council Planning and Land Use Division has a dedicated team of city planners, attorneys, and administrative staff that support Council Members and the Land Use Committee (and associated subcommittees). The Planning and Land Use Division helps the committee and subcommittee Chairs conduct hearings, examines changes to land use regulations on behalf of Council Members, analyzes land use policies and engages in neighborhood planning.
SALARY RANGE:
$56,650 – $65,000
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Work with other team members in generating various documents to prepare committee/subcommittee Chairs and Council Members for public meetings.
- Assist in preparing public notices for publication in the City Record, including entering it into City Register Online system.
- Assist in preparing Committee Reports and Council Resolutions, as well as other legal documents that articulate the Council’s decisions.
- Provide clerical support and maintain files and division databases, which contain critical project information and reports.
- Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
- An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative experience described in “1” above.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Word, SharePoint, and Excel required; the ability to embrace technology and learn programs quickly is highly desired.
- Experience handling multiple assignments with competing deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
- Must be highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working in City or State government is preferred.
- Flexibility to work nights on certain occasions to complete special assignments/projects that are particularly time sensitive.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
