The 10-year contract is currently up for renewal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The op-ed draws on findings from reports by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/comptroller.nyc.gov\/reports\/audit-report-on-the-new-york-city-police-departments-oversight-of-its-agreement-with-shotspotter-inc-for-the-gunshot-detection-and-location-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NYC Comptroller<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bds.org\/assets\/files\/Brooklyn-Defenders-ShotSpotter-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brooklyn Defender Services<\/a>, both of which expose ShotSpotter\u2019s high rate of false alerts, inefficiency, and its disproportionate harm to Black and Latine communities.
