What Is Participatory Budgeting?<\/h2>\n

Participatory Budgeting (PB) is a democratic process where community members directly decide how to spend part of a public budget. District 34 and community members suggested over 80 ideas in 2025 (FY26) to improve the district and we narrowed it down to 12 projects to vote on to be funded in the upcoming City Council budget.<\/p>\n

How Does It Work?<\/h2>\n

Idea Collection and Volunteer Recruitment<\/h4>\n

October \u2013 November 15th<\/em>
Through community meetings, residents brainstorm ideas and recruit Budget Delegates for the current cycle. Submit ideas: BIT.LY\/D34Ideas<\/p>\n

Proposal Development<\/h4>\n

November\u2013 February<\/em>
Budget Delegates transform ideas into full proposals, with support from city agencies and staff. Delegates narrow down proposals and select projects that meet the needs of the community.<\/p>\n

GOTV and Vote Week <\/h4>\n

Vote week is March 29th to April 16th!<\/em>
Once proposals have been determined, Budget Delegates and residents get out the vote and prepare for a nine-day community vote.<\/p>\n

Evaluation and Planning<\/h4>\n

April \u2013 June<\/em>
Winning projects are included in New York City\u2019s upcoming fiscal year budget.<\/p>\n
