Louis issued the following statement after NYPD Commissioner James O&#8217;Neill announced the termination of Officer Daniel Pantaleo for his role in the death of Eric Garner in 2014. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">  <strong>STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH N. LOUIS<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;NYPD Commissioner O&#8217;Neill&#8217;s decision to #firePantaleo is long-awaited justice for Eric Garner&#8217;s family who have relived that fateful day for five tumultuous years. Although Pantaleo&#8217;s termination can never replace what was lost, it is an important step in repairing the strain on community-police relations. Justice has finally been served and I hope that the Garner family can begin the healing process.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><em>New York City Council Member Farah N.
