Louis (D-BROOKLYN)<\/strong> issued the following statement after George Floyd, a black man, was held to the ground by a Minneapolis officer who kneeled on his neck until he lost his consciousness and later died. The four officers involved were terminated and the incident prompted an FBI investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER LOUIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, I saw that yet another unarmed black man was killed\u2014by a reckless Minneapolis officer who pierced his neck with his knee until he lost consciousness and later died.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These black men are fathers, sons, our brothers who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My heart is with the family and loved ones of #GeorgeFloyd who is among the countless men and women killed during police encounters every year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Despite the swift termination of the officers involved in this latest incident, Floyd&#8217;s family deserves justice. As we seek charges and an indictment, we need to send a clear message that such reprehensible behavior must be punished in order to discourage its pervasiveness in our society,\u201d said Council Member Farah N.
