Louis issued the following statement after a uniformed NYPD officer was shot in a marked police van in the Bronx on Saturday by an unidentified man who asked for directions. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later rushed to Lincoln Hospital by his partner  <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH N. LOUIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Every day, members of the New York City Police Department patrol our communities and put themselves in harm&#8217;s way to keep us safe. Today, a six-year veteran of New York&#8217;s Finest assigned to the 41st Precinct was shot for simply doing his job. I am relieved that his injuries were non-life-threatening yet concerned that the alleged perpetrator has not yet been apprehended and poses a real threat to our city. No one should ever feel comfortable enough to walk up to another human being &#8211; police officer or civilian &#8211; and open fire. This reprehensible behavior and violence will not be tolerated in a city where we have worked collectively as neighbors to reduce crime for the sake of our youth and their future. I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured officer and his family at this time,\u201d said Council Member Farah N. Louis. <\/p>\n<p><em>New York City Council Member Farah N.
