Louis, Vice Co-Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus<\/strong>, issued the following statement in response to the sentencing of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH N. LOUIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On Friday, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 1\/2 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd. This is, in many ways, a deeply disappointing outcome to many in the Black community, myself included, who believe a longer sentence should have been handed down. Mr. Floyd&#8217;s death was an act of cold-blooded murder. In fact, prosecutors had requested 30 years for Chauvin, who could get out on parole in as little as 15 years. Justice will be served one day. But true justice did not happen in Minneapolis this week. We will continue to mourn Mr. Floyd and pray for his family as we work to bring real and lasting reform to the justice system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">###<\/p>\n<p><em>New York City Council Member Farah N.
