FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n NEW YORK \u2013\u2013\u2013 Council Member Farah Louis (D-Brooklyn),<\/strong> Co-Chair of the Women’s Caucus and Vice Co-Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus, issued the following statement on incoming Governor Kathy Hochul.<\/p>\n STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH LOUIS<\/strong><\/p>\n “Yesterday, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul addressed the people of New York State a day after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced he would be resigning after a sexual harassment scandal. In her remarks, Hochul said that she is ready to take over as governor on August 24. She also vowed to set a better tone in state government.<\/p>\n This is welcome news and a promising start to a historic administration. New Yorkers need our first female governor to clean up Albany\u2019s toxic and sexist workplace culture. We also need a leader who is focused on the state\u2019s continued battle with COVID-19; the uncertainty facing our schools and economy; and the ongoing crisis of untreated mental illness and rising gun violence that is devastating working-class communities of color across our state.<\/p>\n I am confident that Governor Hochul has the foresight, integrity, and ability to lead as a shining light in this dark moment. I look forward to working with her on the many serious issues facing Council District 45 and New York State.”<\/p>\n ###<\/p>\n New York City Council Member Farah N.
