Louis is Brooklyn&#8217;s history-maker\u2014and she&#8217;s just getting started.<\/p>\n<p>Representing the 45th Council District&#8217;s vibrant communities of <strong>Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Flatlands, Kensington, Marine Park, and Canarsie<\/strong>, Council Member Louis is breaking barriers with every bold move. She is the first woman ever to <strong>Chair the Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises<\/strong>, one of the Council&#8217;s most powerful committees shaping housing and development citywide. She&#8217;s the<strong> first Haitian and Bahamian American Council Member<\/strong> in New York City history. She is the <strong>first Council Member in her district to deliver affordable housing<\/strong>, from the BPHN Senior Residence, to the RiseBoro Bethany Senior Terraces, to the transformative MHANY Neighborhood Restore project. She is the <strong>first legislator to fund and create a design-build project on New York City parkland <\/strong>with the innovative Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center.<\/p>\n<p>Council Member Louis has <strong>secured over $170 million in capital investments<\/strong> for District 45, including the <strong>first women&#8217;s health center on Flatbush Avenue<\/strong>, the <strong>first recreation center with a pool in Central Brooklyn<\/strong>, and the<strong> creation of the East 25th Street Historic District<\/strong>\u2014the first of its kind in East Flatbush. In 2024, Council Member Louis fought to <strong>secure $3.5 million toward AYO Labs at the Brooklyn Navy Yard<\/strong>, the first anchored business incubator and accelerator focused on helping launch and grow woman-owned health and beauty businesses launch and grow in New York City with a goal to create over 900 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>A first-generation Brooklynite raised in an immigrant, pro-union household, Louis champions <strong>affordable housing, education reform, maternal and reproductive health care, pay equity, and economic justice for women and minority-owned businesses<\/strong>. As former <strong>Chair of the Committee on Women and Gender Equity<\/strong>, she tackled maternal mortality, domestic violence support, and entrepreneurship opportunities for women and girls with relentless determination.<\/p>\n<p>From grassroots organizing to citywide policy reform, Council Member Louis operates with one unshakeable principle that her community deserves excellence, and she refuses to accept anything less.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Unbossed.
