BROOKLYN, NY — NYC Council Member Farah N. Louis (D-Brooklyn) released the following statement after TV personality Regis Philbin died on Friday of natural causes at the age of 88.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER LOUIS

“Last week, Regis Philbin, one of the hardest working men in television that I admired, passed away. With a 60-year career in the television industry, he epitomized how true grit and determination could help you overcome your fears and pursue your dreams. In spite of his success, Regis mentored others who would follow in his footsteps and further transform the TV industry for the greater good.

“In 2006, I Interned at WABC-TV as an undergraduate student where I had the opportunity to work on ‘Live! With Regis and Kelly’ for some time and it was worth every minute.”

“There is a common misconception that TV production is perfect, scripted, and always on cue. Regis proved that was far from the truth. He was unscripted, witty and humorous.

“Regis, along with a few other reporters that I worked alongside, taught me the power of improvisation, charm and good character. Regis was lovable and is truly someone we can learn a few things from and will always be highly respected in broadcast media. He made my internship experience at WABC-TV worthwhile.

“As New Yorkers, and loyal viewers, we have lost a TV legend whose laughter warmed our hearts and homes. I extend my sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues and hope they can find some comfort in knowing his legacy will live on and that he left the world a better place.”
