FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n BRONX, NY \u2013 Today, Council Member Eric Dinowitz, joined by New York City Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Schools Deputy Chancellor of Operations Kevin Moran, UFT President Michael Mulgrew, and administrators, teachers, and students from the Walton Campus, cut the ribbon on a $2 million investment in Bronx students\u2013a brand new athletic field the Council Member secured in Fiscal Year \u201826. This athletic field makes the Walton field state-of-the-art, where students can compete, build teamwork and confidence, and where they can create memories to last a lifetime.<\/p>\n Notably, the Walton field is the only standalone field in the Bronx with lighting, making it a destination for student athletes across the city, as well as members of the community that want to enjoy outdoor recreation. Lighting allows for expanded practice hours and safer play at night.<\/p>\n The old, cracked, dirt field was not just aesthetically unpleasing, but could even cause injuries. Every child, no matter what borough they live in, should have access to the same high-quality school facilities, and today that was made a reality. With this investment, Council Member Dinowitz continues his crusade to ensure every high school in the district is a place where students can attend with pride.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I was a teacher at the Walton Campus, I saw the need for better facilities every day, but I knew it would take a seat in the NYC Council to make it a reality.\u201d said Council Member Dinowitz.<\/strong> \u201cAfter I left the classroom to represent my students at City Hall, I made a promise that my work would support them even more than my daily lessons, and today, I am thrilled to cut the ribbon on a brand new, $2 million turf field that will instill confidence in our student athletes and strengthen our community.
