Council Member Eric Dinowitz is a lifelong resident of the Northwest Bronx, serving the same district he grew up in and is now raising his family in. He is a dedicated community activist and former public school special education teacher, where he taught some of our most vulnerable students for over a decade. His first term was defined by his fierce advocacy on behalf of students, families, older adults, and people with disabilities. <\/span><\/div>\n

As the former Chair of the Committee on Higher Education,  and now the Chair of the Committee on Education, the Council Member maintains an unwavering commitment to ensuring that every student, including those with disabilities, has the resources they need to thrive in New York City\u2019s educational system. Whether it be a more holistic approach to evaluating academic achievement, an expansion of civic engagement among our students, or ensuring that our students with IEP\u2019s maintain equal and efficient access to services needed to further their education, Council Member Dinowitz is committed to fostering an inclusive and growth-oriented environment that allows all of our students to shine.<\/div>\n

His personal experiences growing up in Mitchell-Lama housing inform his advocacy, including passing legislation to streamline the SCRIE application process for tenants. The Council Member also serves as Chair of the Jewish Caucus, where he works to address the rise in antisemitism. Before his election, he was a Chapter Leader for the United Federation of Teachers and served as Aging Chair of Bronx Community Board 8, helping ensure older adults received vital services during the pandemic. With a deep commitment to education, housing stability, and community well-being, he continues to advocate for a brighter future for the Bronx and its residents.<\/div>\n
