The KADE ASHTON TYLER LEWIN WAY was officially unveiled by Council Member Darlene Mealy in the presence of a large contingent of community residents, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Public Advocate Jumaanie Williams, State Senator Zellnor Myrie, and Assemblywoman Monique Chandler-Waterman. Mayor Eric Adams also attended and addressed the gathering.

“This is a fitting tribute to an outstanding student and, from all accounts, an A+ son. Kade was the victim of the epidemic of gun-violence that’s now plaguing New York City. By naming this street for him we memorialize, honor and make certain that he will not be forgotten. I am pleased and honored to do this in his name,” said Council Member Darlene Mealy.

Lewin was with his 20-year old aunt and 8-year-old relative sitting in a car parked near East 56th Street and Linden Boulevard in Brooklyn around 8:00 p.m. on March 31, 2022 having a meal together. That’s when men exited a sedan and opened fire.

Police believe that Lewin, who was struck in the head and chest while sitting in the passenger seat, was not the intended target of the shooting. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, according to senior police officials. According to published reports, Kade’s mother, Suzette Lewin said she arrived at the scene before police and cradled her baby in her arms for the final time.

“I am deeply disappointed that up to now the killer or killers who callously snuffed out Kade’s young life have not yet been caught and brought to justice.
