39. First elected to the New York City Council in 2013, I. Daneek Miller was reelected in 2017. As chairman of its Civil Service and Labor Committee, he oversees hearings on various issues, including a bill that would require most businesses to provide employees with two weeks of paid personal time each year. Previously president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1056, Miller co-chairs the MTA Labor Coalition, which represents a coalition of about 54,000 union members.
